I read an article recently where an avid, experienced catfish angler said he likes to go out a few days before a full/new moon. He found the cats tend to be more agitated in the days leading up to a Solunar excellent day. I figured I’d give it a try, so I went out a day before the actual peak event was expected.

What a day! I set out to spend as much time as I could today fishing. Weather was clear and crisp in the morning but expected to be 80° for a high. Full moon with a lunar eclipse wrapping up right before I left, water temperature the same as the air temperature, should be a great day!

The weather is starting to get colder, which means the water temperature is cooling down. Catfish are supposed to hibernate when water temps dip below 61°. Knowing this I still try, but figured between this fact and today is a low Solunar day, I’d start out going for Carp.

Today was the first day of the season where the highs/lows were actually seasonal. 57° overnight low, 70° high. Beautiful! Although catfish are supposed to slow down and effectively hibernate when water temps drop below 61°, I’ve caught them in October before, even November, so I figured I’d give it a shot.
